1.31

ततः कारञ्जनगरं श्रीकृष्णेन यथा पुरा। भागदत्तं पुरं तद्वल्लुण्ठयित्वा समागतम्।। ततः = Then कारञ्ज-नगरम् = Karanja-city श्री-कृष्णेन = by Lord Krishna यथा = like पुरा = once भागदत्तम् = belonging to  or created by bhagadatta पुरम् = city तद्वत् = in the same manner लुण्ठयित्वा = having stolen समागतम् = come Then just as Lord Krishna came having looted the city of Bhagadatta in the same manner was the city of Karanja looted.

1.30

ततः श्रीत्र्यम्बको नाम विख्यातः पुण्यपर्वतः। हर्षेण सह सोऽप्यस्मिन् प्रयाणे स्ववशीकृतः।। ततः = Then श्री-त्र्यम्बकः = Lord-Tryambaka नाम = by name विख्यातः = famous पुण्य-पर्वतः = holy-mountain हर्षेण = with happiness सह = with सः = He अपि =also अस्मिन् =  in this प्रयाणे = in travel स्व-वशीकृतः = self-captured = captured it himself Then He also captured the famous holy mountain called Tryambaka himself during his travels.

1.29

ततः श्रीमच्छिवेनेयं सुरती लुण्ठिता पुनः।  तद्धैन्दवमहाराष्ट्रभाषायुग्मेन वर्णितम्।। ततः = Then श्रीमत्-शिवेन = by Lord Shivaji इयम् = This सुरती = city of Surat   लुण्ठिता = stolen पुनः = again तत्-हैन्दव-महाराष्ट्र-भाषा-युग्मेन = by the-hindi-marathi-languages-pair = in the combination of Hindi and Marathi वर्णितम् = described Then the city of Surat was looted by Lord Shivaji was again described in the mixing of Hindi and Marathi languages.

1.28

तस्मादादौ महाराष्ट्रभाषया किल वर्णितम्।  इतो रायगडे गत्वा गृहीतं राजदर्शनम्।। तस्मात् = therefore आदौ =  in the beginning महाराष्ट्र-भाषया = by the Maharashtra-language = in Marathi किल = isn't it वर्णितम् = described इतः = from here रायगडे = in Raigad गत्वा = having gone गृहीतम् = taken राज-दर्शनम् = royal audience Therefore, in the beginning in the beginning it was described in Marathi isn't it? After this I received the royal audience after going to Raigad.

1.27

तत्सर्वं श्रोतुमिच्छामि भवन्तः कवयः खलु। कविरुवाच - मया द्वादशभाषाभिः कविकर्म विरच्यते।। तत् = That सर्वम् = everything श्रोतुम् = to hear इच्छामि = i want भवन्तः = all of you कवयः = poets खलु = indeed कविः = the poet उवाच = said मया = by me द्वादश-भाषाभिः = by 12-languages कविकर्म = kavikarma विरच्यते = is composed I want to hear everything and all of you are poets right?.  The poet said - I composed Kavikarma 12 languages 

1.26

इदानीं स्थीयते कस्मिन् महाराजेन पर्वते। वर्षत्रयमितो गत्वा भवद्भिर्यदनुष्ठितम्।। इदानीम् = Now स्थीयते = is stood (upon) कस्मिन् = by which महाराजेन = by King पर्वते = on the mountain वर्ष-त्रय-मितः = year-3-measured गत्वा = having gone भवद्भिः = by you (plural referring respectfully to the poet) यत् = which अनुष्ठितम् = observed Now which King stands upon the mountain now? Having gone For 3 years that which you have observed....

1.25

राजोवाच - श्रुतमस्ति मया पूर्वमिदानीन्तनमादितः। कथयन्तु कथं जातं भवतां राजदर्शनम्।। राजा = King उवाच = said श्रुतम् = Heard अस्ति = is मया = by me पूर्वम् = already इदानीन्तनम् = current one आदितः = from the beginning  कथयन्तु = you (plural referring to poet) should say  कथम् = how जातम् = happened भवताम् = your (plural referring to poet) राज-दर्शनम् = royal-view = visiting the King The King said - I heard the present story already from the beginning. You should tell me how your royal audience happened

1.24

सोऽयं सविस्तरात् सर्वः श्रुतः किल रसाकुलैः। भवद्भिश् च तथान्यैश् च राजवंशधुरन्धरैः।। सः = He अयम् = This man सविस्तरात् = from the detailed one/thing सर्वः =everything श्रुतः = was heard किल = isn't it रस-आकुलैः = by the sentiment-filled = by the ones filled with emotion भवद्भिः = by all you च = and तथा = then अन्यैः = by others च = and राज-वंश-धुरन्धरैः = by king-dynasty-chiefs =  by the elders of the royal dynasty He was heard by everyone in detail wasn't he? And then all of you were filled with emotion and also others and the elders of the royal dynasty.

1.23

ततः कतिपयैर् वर्षैर् मया काव्यानि तन्वता। छन्दो विनिर्मितं तस्मिन् कृतः सर्वस्य सङ्ग्रहः।। ततः = Then कतिपयैः =  by a few वर्षैः = by years मया = by me काव्यानि = poems तन्वता =  by the one who is the composing (neu. sing. third case Present Active Participle of तनोति) छन्दः = chandas (Neutral acc sing छन्दस्) विनिर्मितम् = constructed तस्मिन् =  in that कृतः = done सर्वस्य = of all सङ्ग्रहः = gathering/collection And so by me who is composing took a few years to form a chandas in which I collected everything

1.22

बेङ्गलूराख्यनगरे श्रुतं पूर्वार्धमादितः। तस्मादेवाहमाहूतः श्रीमद्भिः श्रोतुमुत्सुकैः।। बेङ्गलूर-आख्य-नगरे = in Bangalore-named-city श्रुतम् = heard पूर्व-अर्धम् = upper-part आदितः = from the beginning तस्मात् = therefore एव = indeed अहम् = I आहूतः = invited श्रीमद्भिः = by the rich ones/nobles श्रोतुम् = to hear उत्सुकैः = by the interested ones In the city of Bangalore, I heard the first half. That is why I was invited by the nobles interested in hearing.

1.21

महाराजाधिराजोऽपि शृण्वंस्तुष्टोऽभवत् पुरा। भवद्भिरपि यद्गौरीविलासाख्ये सभान्तरे।। महाराजाधिराजः = Emperor अपि = also शृण्वन् = the one who is listening/having heard तुष्टः = satisfied अभवत् = became पुरा = before भवद्भिः = by you all अपि= also यत् = which (poem) गौरीविलास-आख्ये = in Gaurivilasa-named = in that (place) called Gaurivilasa सभा-अन्तरे = court-within = inside the court The Emperor and all of you were also pleased after listening to which (poem) before in a place called Gaurivilasa in the court.

1.20

यथाभूतं हि तद्युद्धं कविभिर्वर्णितं पुरा। मयापि तत्प्रसादेन किञ्चिदाकर्ण्य वर्णितम्।। यथाभूतम् = as it happened हि = indeed तत्-युद्धम् = that-battle = the battle कविभिः = by poets वर्णितम् = described पुरा = once  मया = by me अपि = also तत्-प्रसादेन = by that-blessing = by the blessing किञ्चित् = a little आकर्ण्य = having heard वर्णितम् = described The battle as it happened was indeed described already by other poets. I am blessed to have heard about it a little and also described it.

1.19

कल्किनो निष्कलङ्कस्य तुरुष्कवरमर्दनम्। प्रोच्यते भावि यच्छास्त्रे तदिदानीं निरूप्यते।। कल्किनः = of Kalki निस्-कलङ्कस्य = of no-stain = of the spotless/immaculate तुरुष्क-वर-मर्दनम् = Turk-best-killing = Killing of the best among the Turks प्रोच्यते = is declared (passive sing. 3rd person प्र-वक्ति) भावि = That which happens (neu nom sing of भाविन्) यत् = which शास्त्रे = in scripture तत् = That इदानीम् = now निरूप्यते = is shown/proven The Killing of the best among the Turks by the immaculate Kalki, which is declared to happen in scripture, is shown now

1.18

शृणु तावन्महाराज श्रीशिवाग्रजस्य ते। चरितं देववर्यस्य विष्णोरिव जगत्प्रभोः।। शृणु = Listen तावत् = a little महाराज = O King  श्री-शिव-अग्रजस्य = Lord-Shiva(Shivaji)-"older brother" = the older brother of King Shivaji ते = yours (possessive sing of त्वद्) चरितम् = history देव-वर्यस्य = of god-chief = of the chief of the gods विष्णोः = of Vishnu इव = like  जगत्-प्रभोः = of universe-lord = of the lord of the universe Listen a little, O King. The history of you, Shivaji and your brother, Like that of Vishnu, the chief of the gods.

1.17

स्वामिनो रामचन्द्रस्य विनीतो भरतो यथा। कविर्निवेदयाञ्चक्रे सर्वं कुशलपूर्वकम्।। स्वामिनः =  of the Lord रामचन्द्रस्य = of Ramachandra विनीतः = well-behaved भरतः = Bharata यथा = like कविः = the poet  निवेदयाञ्चक्रे = conveyed णिजन्ते लिट्लकारः (आत्मनेपदम्) sing. 1st person of नि-वेदयति सर्वम् = everything कुशल-पूर्वकम् = with happiness = well The poet  who was like the polite Bharata, the well-behaved brother of Lord Rama,  conveyed that everything is well to King Shivaji 

1.16

प्रत्युत्थानादिसन्मानैर्नमस्कृत्य ततः कविम्। पप्रच्छ कुशलं श्रीमदग्रजस्य महीभुजः।। प्रत्युत्थान-आदि-सन्मानैः = by "rising from a seat to welcome a visitor"-etc-"paying respects" = with acts of respect like rising from the seat etc. नमस्कृत्य = Having saluted ततः = Then/therefore कविम् = the poet पप्रच्छ = perfect tense sing. third person of पृच्छति कुशलम् = well-being श्रीमत्-अग्रजस्य = respected-"older brother" महीभुजः = of the King (6th case sing. of महीभुज्) Then having saluted the poet by rising from his seat etc. He (the King) asked about the well-being of the King's brother (Sambhaji Shahji Bhosle)
